This is all wasteful spending of tax payer dollars even if it is not from local tax payers. It would then be theft from others to pay for the needs or wants of others. Simply put it is immoral. Public projects should solely be funded by the communities that use them and nobody else should be forced to pay through the guise of taxation.

And why would anyone want trains?? The government can't even run Amtrak anywhere near a profit, not to mention even at a break even point. It would also be interesting to see how affordable the bus system even is. Likely it is full of subsidies to keep that afloat too?

Idolize? What are you taking about?

Excuse me hmmmm...is that MS. Deakos bugging me on my blog again.
Use real name please. Sometimes I am at meetings..like tonight and only have time to post things I want to focus on. Why would I argue with someone if they agree with me?

Just for the record: I think anonymity is a bit cowardly when writing a letter to the editor or making commentary in any forum.

We are setting up the scene for an improved train system here in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

I believe there is at least 8 Billion dollars set aside in Federal funding.
I do not want the Southern end of Luzerne County to be left out of that loop!
It will be critical to sustain and maintain life here in this economy.

http://www.timeleader.com/news/W-B_wins_more_project_cash.html

Here is a new item:

W-B wins more project cash

WILKES-BARRE – The city got an added financial boost for its intermodal facility even though its construction is running behind schedule.

City Council on Thursday approved a $3 million grant increase from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project for a total of $10 million

DREAM! that is what you want to do with our tax money. 12 million to build a parking garage that provides NO PARKING!!!!!!! and then another 18 million to create 90 more spaces than where there before they spent 30 million of our tax dollars. i know you idolize the Mayor but what is he thinking? 30 million spent elsewhere in downtown, now that makes sense.
Markle Building, a KOZ site, no taxes are coming out of those businesses . what a concept. you like to criticize my anonymous name here but others that post on here and dont put their name up, as long as they agree with you you say NOTHING>

A little conversation this morning at the sponsored by the Hazle Township Supervisors held at the Top of the Eighties revealed the usual concerns. As my friend Dominic passed by my table I said hey Dominic watch out for the trains.

I then asked if he really that it was a possibility.
Will it happen in my lifetime?

He smiled and said: "In five years."

Well let's wait and see.

I hope to have the First Night First Light Community Mural installed in the Intermodal. I hope Renee Craig assists with that goal. It would be nice for me and the community.

I would love to have frequent 'Art Walks' in the Hazleton Downtown.
Let's bring this location to a new level. It started with the awesome 'rebirth' of improvements in the prominent historic Markle building. My studio is located here.

Years in making, city transportation hub opens

My friend Jino Dino gives a little background information about this historical site that once assisted travelers to destinations by train. This new site will be utilized for bus transportation.

Time will tell if it transforms back to a train station. Will it happen in my lifetime? Hmmmmm not so sure! It is nice to dream.

News - Official Web Site of the City of Hazleton, PennsylvaniaCity breaks ground for Church Street Station intermodal center · PDF · Print ... are, from left: Jerry Palko, Berger Construction Company; Dominic Yannuzzi, ...

My friend Dominic Yannuzzi passed by in his car as I was taking some final photographs from the day late this afternoon at the newly constructed Intermodal building. He was making a sweet hopeful joke with a smile. He looked up ahead at the railroad tracks and said "Wait for the train." Yeah I thought the same trains that pass by many times a day would make for a better photograph. Then I realized he was really looking ahead for a future train stop at the Intermodal building. We shall see.

It was a lovely ribbon cutting ceremony for the new structure. This project started about a decade ago. It still has more steps for completion. Will this be more than a bus station someday?

Is this the gateway to the future of the Hazleton Downtown? Right now it will serve as a bus station. Many have HIGH hopes that this will be the beginning of a possible train station later. Bets are on the completion of the rest of this project to lure other developers to add to the economic growth of this city. Is this the beginning of a rebirth for the Hazleton downtown? Time will tell. I want to stay positive. When I have conversations with citizens and with those who attended today's event I get back to the reality of our situation.

There is a dedication within many persistent individuals. The battle for economic growth with this severe economy is long. We have many issues in this city to pursue and seek reasonable solutions. I have confidence with the current elected new city council members that we can achieve our goals. Hopefully I will see that happen in my lifetime. LOL I feel so old some days. Let's look for the glass is half full attitude.

Is this faith looking forward to a brighter future? Well...I hope so!
We need that sometimes.
