CORBETT UNDER-PERFORMING IN NEW GOV POLL; GERLACH MOST POPULAR REPUBLICAN IN THE SOUTHEAST

Twice Elected Statewide, Corbett Should Be Way Over 50% Mark, But Fails to Break Even 40%

(Exton, PA) – A new poll released by Quinnipiac University showed an expected Tom Corbett lead in the Republican gubernatorial head-to-head match-up with Congressman Jim Gerlach. However, Corbett’s failure to break the 50% mark, or even the 40% mark, shows he is vastly under-performing.

“It isn’t surprising at all that Tom Corbett is leading the Republican field since he has run twice statewide and is the only Republican that voters know outside of the southeast right now. Yet with all those advantages, not only is Corbett failing to break the crucial 50 percent mark - he is well under 40 percent,” said Scott Migli, spokesman for the Gerlach for Governor campaign. “He is really under-performing.”

The poll found that in the southeast, where 35% of all Republicans live, Jim Gerlach is the most popular Republican among all candidates for Governor. Another poll released earlier this year showed that when voters know all Republican candidates, they choose Gerlach over Corbett by a wide margin.

“We are excited to take our campaign all around Pennsylvania where we believe voters will respond well to our message and record of more jobs, lower taxes, and less spending,” added Migli. “Jim Gerlach is the only Republican candidate for Governor with a record on those issues.”

U.S. Congressman Jim Gerlach announced his candidacy for Governor of Pennsylvania last Tuesday. Born and raised in the western Pennsylvania steel town of Ellwood City, he has represented the voters in Berks, Chester and Montgomery counties for the last 19 years in the state House, state Senate and now Congress.

This is interesting spin from the Gerlach campaign, but it is no where near based in reality. Gerlach has little support in the party, and so he has to resort to these silly tactics to stay credible.
