   I have been attending the Hazleton Downtown Promotion Committee meetings for several years now. There are many incentives to try to bring everything alive and busy here in Hazleton, PA. I think the biggest "downfall" with many "downtown" areas was the economic drive to create large shopping malls.

   As we all struggle to survive here in these severe economic times I see the same people faithfully attend meetings and promote the "positive" side to life. There are decorative lights that enhance the intermodal center in Hazleton. They are similar to the type that are planned for the Broad Street Corridor's decorative lighting project. That project is $1 million dollars short.

   On occassion I have a little social exchange with project engineer Dominic Yannuzzi. I am trying to have my FIRST NIGHT, FIRST LIGHT COMMUNITY MURAL PROJECT
   installed in the Intermodal Building. I have a verbal promise from city officials that this can be a reality. I created the mural in collaboration with First Night Hazleton. Sometimes Dominic will ask: How do you like the Intermodal building?
   I usually reply: "I like the light fixtures!"

   Wow! I must say it is an expensive item. Our downtown requires a huge shot in the arm.
   I hope we can stay positive and continue forward with the economic improvements here.

   This is a painful process as all local downtown businesses must go through discomfort when the Broad Street Corridor project starts. Where will we get the funds?
