    Another Barletta, Kanjorski face-off?

HAZLETON – Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta, whose campaign committee is still $153,670 in debt from his 2008 losing effort to unseat U.S. Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski, said he may challenge Kanjorski again next year.

    Barletta: No decision on run

The only thing Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta is ready to confirm about a making a run for state or federal office is that he has not made any plans.

"I haven't made any decision on that," Barletta said from City Hall on Wednesday evening.

According to Barletta, his current focus is on the office he presently holds.

Really, support Lou? Have you taken a look at what he did. raised different taxes in the city, created no jobs, got no help from anyone , created division in the city, has the city in a deficit, potential layoff of cops. do i need to go on?
he doesn't want to be a Congressman, he DOESN'T want to be Mayor.

i respect your opinion, i just think you haven't thought it through.

Oh brother....you must be cranky when you respond to these posts!

He works on the city business.
Talk to Amilcar...he is working with the mayor on important issues....gotta go

You just want the last word on my blog.

    That is very obvious.

We all know you work hard against the Mayor of Hazleton.
Why not offer your energy to work with him?

interesting article. the Mayor tells us not to be concerned because these criminals only do harm to one another. really..............
whose houses do they rob to buy their drugs, whose houses do they do home invasions on to beat our citizens....... whose cars do they steal to sell in the City......

this Mayor is out of touch, a certain councilwoman wants to reduce the size of the police department!!!!!!

Time for change, time for check and balances on this Mayor......

    I am an artist.

We must continue with OPERATION H.E.A.R.T.!!!!!!!!!We are strong! We are the GOP!

We can build the Republican Party in Luzerne County!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We must continue to organize events and expose corruption in Luzerne County!
This arrogance will continue if we lose heart.

    Regardless of the results:

We won many smaller battles here in the Southern end of Luzerne County.
IN WEST HAZLETON, SUGARLOAF, HAZLETON AND FREELAND

    This is significant.

I am very impressed with the JUDGE JOAN ORIE MELVIN.
SHE won because of her position on the issues here in LUZERNE COUNTY.
    THAT IS VERY POWERFUL!!

WE MUST STAND TOGETHER AND CONTINUE WITH OPERATION H.E.A.R.T!

I will respond to one issue mentioned by LOWERLUZERNE WHO WE ALL KNOW IS DEA DEAKOS(owner of a building in downtown Hazleton). Dea Deakos attended the Hazleton City Council meeting last evening and offered some suggestions in response to the increased Hazleton City council discusssion/vote to increase the cost of parking violations. Her name is mentioned in this article. I think checks and balances are important. That is why I make my comments. That is why I am vocal about the Luzerne County Home Rule Study Commission. I also believe it is Time for Check and Balances on Dea Deakos too!

By the way I perceive Dea Deakos as a person who likes to bend the rules to win elections. I was minority inspector in Hazleton City District 1 on November 3, 2009. I was constantly watching for violations as she loves to "assist voters" while voting. It is comparable to a junior high classroom at times.

If your back is turned or you are distracted by the Majority of Democratic officials in the room she is slick enough to influence the voter to VOTE her way. That is my opinion. I observed a conversation with the Judge of Elections after I questioned why she was again very present in the polls during the voting. They were laughing and joking. She said:Sorry I was just trying to help you out" She does not care if the officials will get in trouble. She does not care about the laws. That was observation! This is my opinion!

Guess what? I still try to respect and listen to her rationale about city issues.

I guess I have too soft of a heart for politics.

WE require more "watch dogs" for the May 2010 Primary election! The Democratic greed machine still has a hold on Luzerne County. I am unsure about who to trust.

Watch your backs and be ready to pull the knives out when they are thrown!

THIS IS POLITICS IN THE CITY OF HAZLETON!

Park too close to an intersection in the City of Hazleton and it

I have addressed the issue of Councilman Graham. I disagree with her statements and suggestions about cutting the policeforce. When I questioned her during and after a meeting she explained her position. She is worried about how the citizens of Hazleton can afford to pay their taxes to support the increased financial demands to fight our problems. We all know the problems! We have an increase in population and less are paying taxes. The revenue does not increase with the population increase. THAT IS ANOTHER TOPIC FOR A BLOG RELATED TO THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ISSUE AND INCREASE OF CRIME.

NOW BELOW I have included a copy of a Press Release from Sean Shamany:

    First District Republican Committee-Press Release

    PO Box 182

    Hazleton, PA 18201

Contact: Sean Shamany, First District Chairman (570-233-1516)

First District Republican Chairman States Election Results Indicate “Major GOP Comeback” in Southern Luzerne County

Hazleton, PA-November 5, 2009- The First District Republican Chairman Sean Shamany is very impressed with the overall effort to get out the vote in the Tuesday’s General election. Republicans and like-minded Democrats in Southern Luzerne turned out at the polls to overwhelmingly support Republican candidates.

Shamany stated, “The GOP is on the rise in Southern Luzerne County and these results clearly show that voters will elect Republicans in the First District, even with the disadvantage to Democrats in registered voters. Many people in Southern Luzerne County are conservative in their views and want less government interference in their lives, lower taxes and sound fiscal responsibility. These results clearly show qualified Republicans can be elected in Democratic leaning counties, cities and municipalities.”

Some major accomplishments in the First District were:

In the city of Hazleton, Republicans Jim Perry and Karin Cabell were elected to office defeating a Democratic incumbent on Tuesday. When Jim and Karin take office, the city of Hazleton will have a Republican majority on council with four sitting GOP council members and a very popular Republican Mayor in Lou Barletta! Chairman Shamany stated, “This will be the first time in recent history that a Republican majority will control Hazleton City Council.”

In West Hazleton Borough, Republican First District Committee Member Frank Schmidt was elected as Mayor, replacing a Democrat in that office.

In Freeland, the borough council will return to a Republican majority, with the election of Republicans Robert J Quinn, Daniel Bobby, and Joseph Palko.

In Butler Township, Republican Committee Member Brian Kisenwether was elected Supervisor by a large majority of voters.

In county races, Southern Luzerne voters handily supported the Republican candidates across the ballot. Attorney Richard Hughes garnered more votes than both Democrats, Amesbury and Gartley, in every single municipality in the First District, despite the heavy Democrat registration figures. While Hughes lost the race due to results in the Northern part of the county, he dominated the votes everywhere in Southern Luzerne. Clearly Democrats in Southern Luzerne felt Hughes’ credentials and experience made him most qualified for the job. Along with Richard Hughes, Southern Luzerne county voters agreed to retain Republican Thomas Burke by a large margin. Other winners in the First District were Republican Walter Griffith for Controller, Republican Carolee Medico Olenginski for Prothnotary, Republican Gina Nevenglosky for Register of Wills and Republican Frank Semanski for Jury Commissioner.

Shamany believes “Now more then ever the First District Republican Party is energized and I encourage all registered Republicans to join our cause!”

The First District Republican Committee meets the last Wednesday of each month on the 2nd Floor above Mea’s Restaurant, Broad Street, Hazleton and meetings are open to all interested parties. Due to the holidays, the next meeting is 7PM, December 2nd . If anyone wishes to provide financial support to the continued Republican efforts in District 1, checks can be made out to: First District Republican Committee and mailed to PO Box 182 Hazleton, PA 18201.

I know you and your friends will continue on the crusade to bash Mayor LOU.

In fact many discussions were held in front of me as I worked the polls this past election to distract me from my duties. Really these tactics can be a nuisance.

HERE ARE SOME THOUGHTS FOR NOW:

    1. THERE ARE MANY IN THE AREA WHO WANT LOU TO CONTINUE THE BATTLE ABOUT THE ISSUES AND SUPPORT ANOTHER RUN FOR CONGRESS. THEY BELIEVE HE CAN DO A GREAT JOB!

    2. DESPITE ALL OF YOU WHO SAY HE IGNORES HIS DUTIES AS MAYOR I DISAGREE!
YOU ALL LOVE TO POINT OUT FAULTS. YOU ARE EXCELLENT IN THE COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT.

    3. AGAIN I ASK YOU TO BE A PART OF THE SOLUTIONS. YOU APPEAR TO LOVE CHAOS AND ATTENTION.

    4. PAY THE HEATING BILL! THAT IS A NO BRAINER! See ya around town. I have a lot of serious work to do. I will continue to survive and work on my goals. ARE YOU Worried about buying presents for your grandchildren?

Get creative and make some beautiful gifts that they will treasure. Why buy their love? Perhaps you have lost the real meaning of the holiday season.

tomorrows budget hearing for the City of Hazleton should be interesting. we will see a 70% property tax increase, a 7% garbage feel increase, earned income tax increase, oh yea, businesses in KOZ buildings dont pay payroll taxes either....
and this is a Mayor that wants to run for higher office? how can anyone support him?
i feel bad for senior citizens, middle class wage earners in the City, and people out of work trying to make ends meet. this all from a Conservative Republican? hmmmmmm can he win any office?

the only people i can see supporting him are people that lived outside the area and moved here, they dont know better.

I have been trying to work on my art and preparing my materials to enter shows.
The art world has a lot of rules with presentation and quality.
I am trying to do this with an injury and orders from a doctor to let my bone heal.

Judges are critical of the photos for submission.
Hey it can be so political in the art world..but with that said:
My foot is healing and I am trying to get back into the workforce!
I did not attend the budget meetings.
I am also involved with community work and helping this city move forward.

    What are you doing?

This Mayor and City Council have a task:
Find SOLUTIONS for an increased population and no increase in income.

BY the way: Did YOU just insult some of the citizens who live in this city?

i call it the past catching up with him. i was there to bad the Council backed down, they should have made him make tough choices.

and then we have his "Recovery Plan" he will be proposing a solar farm! they don't make money in the desert, what makes him think it will work here. it gets dark at 4 pm!!!

so tell me are you aware, do businesses pay earn income tax in KOZ sites?

Kathryn A. Serkes has a good message: Be yourself but have respect for the office. In other words: "Take the high road" This was in reference to those individuals who attack the person instead of the issues. Kathryn is president and founder of Square One Media Network, a strategic communications firm.

Kathryn stated: "We are going to change the direction of this country."

The last Hazleton City Council meeting our Mayor Lou Barletta used phrases to members of the council that wanted real solutions on paper.

Throwing snowballs and pointing fingers is not helping the city. The obvious game plan is to stall the budget until the newly elected officials take over. How does that help our citizens of this city? It is not a responsible effort. It is political football and entertainment for those who like to sit and watch the show.
