   Capitolwire: 'Blue Dog' House Democrats could nix Rendell's tax-hike plan.

   About 20 members of the House Democratic caucus today expressed severe doubts about Gov. Ed Rendell’s proposal to increase the personal income tax in a private meeting today.

   Several members of the "Blue Dog" caucus of socially conservative and fiscally cautious House Democrats, mostly from southwestern Pennsylvania, said they would be unlikely to vote in favor of the plan.

   “I don’t think there’s any tax votes in there,” said Rep. Gary Haluska, D-Cambria, emerging from the meeting.

   The idea to create a Pennsylvania Blue Dog caucus originated more than a year ago when its members felt their caucus was going too far to the left on "social issues" including gun control, abortion and gay rights.
